The Save Our Studio (S.O.S.) campaign group were delighted to have a stall at the Heacham Carnival. It provided the opportunity to show examples of the work people have made at Studio @ 55 – clay modelling, pottery, armature sculpture, soapstone carving and lino-cut.
We received fabulous support from the Carnival visitors. They really liked what was on display. Adults and children alike loved designing their own rocks using Sharpies. It became clear to us that parents are looking for a creative venue for their children. They were delighted to hear that our plans for The Old Dairy include such activities.
“I have always wanted to provide accessible workshops not only for adults but also for children. I have held a series of workshops at the Heacham Infant and Nursery School. The children were captivated by the themes of the workshops and they produced wonderful works of art. The Old Dairy would provide the perfect environment to develop the creativity that exists here in our village.” Esther Boehm
One thing that stood out to our S.O.S. group is that local residents really need a venue in the heart of Heacham where they can meet and be creative with encouragement not judgment.
“The impact of transforming The Old Dairy into an Art and Community Hub in the heart of Heacham is not to be underestimated. Since the pandemic, people have become more aware than ever of their need to look after their mental health. The interest in taking up a creative practice has increased tenfold. The Old Dairy is perfectly placed to provide this. Esther has already made such an impact. She has opened doors, broadened horizons – helped people discover abilities they never knew they had. She provides a safe supportive environment where people come together and forge new friendships.” Sarah Jane Featherstone
So far, we have received just over 750 signatures but we still need more. We need to demonstrate to the Parish Council that an Art and Community Hub at The Old Dairy is exactly what is needed for Heacham and this part of West Norfolk – bringing people of all ages and abilities together – Encouraging Individuality, Acceptance and Understanding.
